A district of nine neighbourhoods

The Lindenthal district covers Braunsfeld, Junkersdorf, Klettenberg, Lindenthal, Lövenich, Müngersdorf, Sülz, Weiden and Widdersdorf. Braunsfeld, Klettenberg, Lindenthal, Müngersdorf and Sülz were incorporated into Cologne in 1888, the remaining neighbourhoods in 1975. Lindenthal is home to the University of Cologne and the Melaten cemetery. Breaking down in this district often happens somewhere between campus, residential streets, and shopping streets.

Main roads in the district

Among the most important and largest roads are Aachener Straße and Dürener Straße in the Lindenthal neighbourhood, and Berrenrather Straße and Luxemburger Straße in Sülz. Many shops, businesses and schools line these roads. Bus stops, delivery traffic and cyclists are dense there, and a stranded car quickly holds everyone up. Hazard lights on, hi-vis vest, and roll out of traffic if you can.

The university and the stadium

Lindenthal is home to the university and, in the Müngersdorf neighbourhood, the RheinEnergieStadion. During events and at the start of term, the approach roads are heavily used. The A1, the noise-protection tunnel and the Cologne-West interchange

The A1 runs through the district in the west. Near Köln-Lövenich (exit 103, B55) it runs for about 1.5 kilometres in a noise-protection enclosure, effectively a tunnel. City forest, green belt and allotment gardens

The neighbourhood's history includes the laying-out of the city forest, plus allotment gardens and the Grüngürtel, a ring of green space around the city centre. The Kitschburg manor is also among Lindenthal's older buildings. For a breakdown, that means: at the edges of the city forest and green belt there are car parks and access roads without street names, and the allotment areas have narrow paths. In that case, tell us the name of the car park, the allotment area, or the nearest larger road, so a tow truck finds the right access without you having to search for a street name that exists three times over in Cologne.
