The southernmost district on the left bank

Rodenkirchen is the second of Cologne's nine districts and lies on the west bank of the Rhine in its bend. It borders the city centre to the north, Porz across the Rhine to the east, Wesseling to the south, Brühl to the south-west, Hürth to the west, and Lindenthal to the north-west. The district covers Bayenthal, Godorf, Hahnwald, Immendorf, Marienburg, Meschenich, Raderberg, Raderthal, Rodenkirchen, Sürth, Rondorf, Weiß and Zollstock.

Southern Cologne: villas, parks and woodland

The neighbourhoods in the river bend, namely Bayenthal, Marienburg, Rodenkirchen, Weiß and Sürth, are often grouped together as "southern Cologne". Typical here are grand villa districts from the Gründerzeit era, large gardens, avenues of old trees, and extensive parks and forests, from the green belt along the Militärringstraße to the woodland in the Weiß river bend. For you that means: some streets are lined with trees, and park and forest areas have few street signs. Describe a park, a wooded area, or a car park by name.

Raderberg, Raderthal and Zollstock

The north-western neighbourhoods of Raderberg, Raderthal and Zollstock were, in part until the 1980s, industrial sites and are now densely built working-class areas. Cars are parked close together here, and a stranded vehicle on a side street quickly blocks the way through. Tell us how wide the street is and whether you're blocking a driveway.

Godorf and Hahnwald: the refinery and close to the motorway

In the southern part of the district lie the northern works of the Rheinland refinery in Godorf and several commercial and business areas in Godorf and Hahnwald. They're well connected via the Cologne-Bonn motorway. The A555 has the Köln-Rodenkirchen (3) and Köln-Godorf (4) exits here, after which comes Wesseling and Bornheim. The Rodenkirchen bridge and the Cologne-Süd interchange

The A4 crosses the Rhine on the Rodenkirchen bridge, about 570 metres long. At the Cologne-Süd interchange it meets the A555. Both are bottlenecks in Cologne's traffic network, with heavy traffic.
