The roads around Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe sits on one of the busiest motorway sections in Germany. On the A5, several exits follow closely one after another here. If you tell us the number of the last exit, we'll know roughly where you are right away:

The Südtangente is a motorway-standard road: it starts at the Karlsruhe-Mitte exit and runs over the Maxau Rhine bridge to Wörth am Rhein in the Palatinate. Breaking down here often means standing in flowing traffic with no hard shoulder. Hazard lights, hi-vis vest, and if it's safe, behind the crash barrier. Then call us.

The tunnel under the Kriegsstraße

The B10 runs east to west through central Karlsruhe. Since mid-October 2022, through traffic no longer runs above ground along the Kriegsstraße but through two tunnel tubes, each around one and a half kilometres long, known as the Karoline-Luise-Tunnel. Above ground, the former up-to-ten-lane Kriegsstraße was rebuilt as a boulevard with a tram line.

If your vehicle stops in the tunnel, the same rules apply as in any road tunnel: hazard lights on, engine off, leave the vehicle and head to the nearest emergency point, if it's safe to do so. If anyone is injured, call 112. As soon as you're standing safely, call us. We'll arrange to get the vehicle out of the tunnel.

City centre and the tram network

Karlsruhe has a dense tram network. With the "Kombilösung" project, trams run through the city centre under the Kaiserstraße in a tunnel, but road traffic and trams still run close together at ground level in many places. If your vehicle is blocking tracks or a stop, please tell us straight away on the phone and also report it to the transit operator. Don't try to push the vehicle out of the way yourself if a tram is approaching.

Typical situations in Karlsruhe

• Tyre damage on the B10 or B3: many new cars only carry a puncture repair kit instead of a spare wheel. If that's not enough, we take the vehicle to a tyre service.

• Stuck in a car park or underground garage: tell us the clearance height. Not every tow truck fits everywhere, and we send the right vehicle.

Vans, tradespeople, company vehicles

If a loaded van has broken down, it matters to us how heavy it is and whether the load can stay in the vehicle. Vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes are our everyday business.
