A district on the edge of the city

The district covers Blumenberg, Chorweiler, Esch/Auweiler, Fühlingen, Heimersdorf, Lindweiler, Merkenich (with Rheinkassel, Langel and Kasselberg), Pesch, Roggendorf/Thenhoven, Seeberg, Volkhoven/Weiler and Worringen. The Chorweiler neighbourhood itself lies about 14 kilometres north of the city centre. Forest and farmland surround the district to the north and west, and the Rhine meadows border it to the east. Because of this outlying position, distances to the city centre are long, and the connecting roads matter.

The "New Town"

The Chorweiler neighbourhood was built from 1966 onward as a large housing estate, the "Neue Stadt". It's considered the largest high-rise housing estate in North Rhine-Westphalia, with buildings up to 24 storeys. Traffic there is partly routed underground, with tunnel stations for the S-Bahn and tram. For you that means: breakdowns in the New Town often happen in car parks between high-rises and in underground garages. Fühlinger See and green spaces

To the east, parkland extends to the Fühlinger See recreation area, and to the south it merges, after crossing the motorway, into the outer green belt. On excursion days, car parks and access roads fill up. It matters to us which car park or entrance you're at.

The A57, A1 and Cologne-Nord interchange

The A57 has the Köln-Worringen (26) and Köln-Chorweiler (27) exits in the district, followed by the Cologne-Nord interchange (28) with the A1. In Merkenich, the route passes a large industrial park. On the A57 between Worringen and Chorweiler is the Esch/Weiler rest area as a landmark. S-Bahn and tram

Chorweiler is connected via S-Bahn line 11 and tram line 15, which terminates at Chorweiler station. A stranded vehicle still needs transport, so tell us the street and house number.
