Three separate A59 sections

The A59 exists as three unconnected sections. The northernmost is in Duisburg, another runs from Düsseldorf to Leverkusen, and finally the A59 connects Cologne with Bonn-Beuel. This third section is what this page covers. It starts at the Cologne-Heumar triangle, where the A3 and A4 converge.

Exits and interchanges

Between the Porz triangle and the Airport exit, the A59 has the Schloss Röttgen petrol station. It's a useful landmark if you only know you're somewhere between two exits.

Cologne/Bonn Airport

Exit 34 leads to Cologne/Bonn Airport. Car parks P1 to P3 sit right by the terminals. For car park P2, parking portals list a maximum vehicle height of 1.95 metres; the sign at the entrance is what's reliable. Many connections over a short distance

Between Heumar and Bonn-Ost, more than a dozen exits, triangles and interchanges follow one another. Many vehicles change lanes there. In a breakdown that means: don't just say "on the A59", tell us the last exit and the direction, towards Bonn or towards Cologne.

After the trip: a typical situation at the airport

Many breakdowns at the airport are "standing-time" breakdowns: leave your vehicle in the car park for days or weeks, and you can come back to a flat battery, since batteries discharge even while parked.
